How To Teach Cooking School Classes

Do you love to get creative in your kitchen? Do you have a stack of well-worn cookbooks which you read as if they were novels? Are you undaunted by the idea of making a hot green Thai curry or a macaroni and cheese souffle? If so, you may be a super candidate for offering a cooking school class to like-minded people. Teaching a cooking class can be a joyous thing. If you are considering doing just this, read on for some advice.

Step 1

Answer this question first: Where will you hold your cooking school classes? You might be able to use the facilities at a local community center or health food shop. If there is a food bank in your community, they may be willing to let you use their space.

Put your creative hat on and approach people who manage or own spaces in your community that could work for your purposes.

Step 2

Develop a lesson plan for your first lesson. Start simply, with something interesting but unelaborate. Cooking lessons work best when students can easily see what steps to take; if possible your students should cook along with you. Practice and time yourself: those who sign up for a cooking class will need you to stick to your schedule.

Step 3

The first recipe which you teach should be one that you have made countless times and are passionate about.

Step 4

Prepare. And then prepare some more. You should demonstrate techniques but have most of your ingredients ready to go. Things like spices measures, chopped onions, diced carrots and so on.

Step 5

Bring your own tools, including your pots, pans and knives. You know that you work best with your favorite things. You can introduce them to your students.

Step 6

Just in case you do lose track of time, bring some of the finished product to the class, enough so that all students can taste your chosen recipe. Leave your students with a printed out recipe as well, so that they can work on the recipe at home.
