If you have a passion for cooking you should consider a cooking school to hone your skills, expand your kitchen knowledge and techniques. There are a number of schools across the country and you might be overwhelmed by the choices. Where to start? First decide whether you want to be a cook, desert chef or baker. Cooks are required to attend culinary school while a desert chef or baker should attend a pastry or baking school respectively. Once you're sure, pull up a search and find out where the closest schools are, the cost involved and whether they offer a degree or a certificate. Also be sure to check on the background and reputation of the school. Once you have completed your course you will be qualified to become a line cook, sous chef and prep cook among other jobs. Becoming a head chef takes years of training.
